AI is evolving at a rapid rate, and its implications for higher ed are changing in lock step. So, Michael and Jeff dove back into the topic at the Google Public Sector GenAI Live & Labs Conference with a panel of experts: Ann Kirschner of CUNY and ASU, Pace University’s Marvin Krislov, and Google’s Chris Hein. They discussed the necessity of an institutional AI strategy, the tech’s implications for the future of work, and why university partnerships will be essential to equity in the age of AI. This episode is made with support from Google.
What’s really going on with campus-wide AI adoption is a mix of virtue signaling and panic purchasing. Universities aren’t paying for AI—they’re paying for the illusion of control. Institutions are buying into the idea that if they adopt AI at scale, they can manage how students use it, integrate it seamlessly into teaching and learning, and somehow future-proof education. But the reality is much messier.
The Teaching AI Ethics series started as a single post covering the nine areas I’d identified as particularly important to education, from bias and discrimination to reinforcing societal power structures.

Why I'm using AI detection after all, alongside many other strategies | LinkedIn
I argued against use of AI detection in college classrooms for two years, but my perspective has shifted. I ran into the limits of my current approaches last semester, when a first-year writing student persisted in submitting work that was clearly not his own, presenting document history that showed

Writing, Editing, and AI with Heidi Nobles - Intentional Teaching
Back in August, I had the opportunity to hear a short presentation from Heidi Nobles, assistant professor in writing and rhetoric and director of Writing Across the Curriculum at the University of Virginia. The presentation was part of a two-day institute on teaching and generative AI, and Heidi leveraged her background as an editor to provide a different way of thinking about working with generative AI.Heidi pointed out that when we ask ChatGPT or some other AI chatbot to polish a draft essay, we’re asking for copyediting. That’s useful, yes, but there are other, earlier stages to an editing process. Might AI be useful during those other stages? Heidi argued for yes. A chatbot won’t be as good as a human editor, but most writers don’t have access to a human editor, so it’s worth exploring what AI can do.On today's podcast, Heidi Nobles talks about writing and teaching writing from an editor's perspective.Episode Resources· Heidi Nobles faculty page, https://wac.virginia.edu/people/heidi-nobles · Edits on the Record, https://editsontherecord.com/ · Choose Your Own Adventure maps, https://www.cyoa.com/pages/choose-your-own-adventure-these-maps-reveal-the-hidden-structures-behind-the-books · One Book, Many Readings by Christian Swinehart, https://samizdat.co/cyoa/

The Impact of Gen AI on Human Learning: a research summary
To unlock AI’s transformative potential, we must prioritise learning processes over efficiency and outputs. This requires rethinking AI tools through a pedagogy-first lens, with a focus on fostering deeper learning and critical thinking.

AI as Design Accelerator with Ryan Wetzel - Intentional Teaching
So at sort of its most basic level is that let's not frame this as a tool. Let's frame this as somebody else sitting next to you.
We've created about trying to position tools like chat GPT as a collaborator, as a creative partner in a process about thinking about it as a design accelerator.
Todd Zakrajsek, University of North Carolina at Chapel HillKeywords: Generative AI, Learning, TeachingKey Statement: Amid widespread nervousness about generative AI, we can draw on self-efficacy to establish a foundation from which to move forward in creating new learning opportunities for our students with this groundbreaking tool. IntroductionI’ll be honest—generative artificial intelligence (genAI) makes me a little uneasy. It’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately, probably like p
